Overview
St Andrews West is residential development that aims to create a sustainable, contemporary neighbourhood in the historic coastal city, which is home to Scotland’s oldest university and most prestigious golf course. Combining 6 houses, 8 ‘Fisher Flats’, and 38 apartments, the development is just a stone’s throw from St Andrews’ North Sea coastline. EPDM has been certified to provide a service life in excess of 70 years by SKZ, and our RESITRIX® heat-weldable, bitumen backed EPDM waterproofing system provides the ideal solution for this challenging environment and high-end development.
The Project
The roofing contractor developed wind load calculations for the project aligned to the high windspeeds and gusts typical of the location, and designed the complex detailing required for the interfaces between the flat roof areas and the pitched roof sections.
The RESITRIX® SKW hybrid EPDM single ply membrane was used to cover the link roofs between pitched roof structures, along with the roofs several dormers. The warm roof build-up comprised our ALUTRIX® 600 self-adhesive vapour barrier membrane and 180mm PIR insulation, followed by the RESITRIX® SKW waterproofing covering. RESITRIX®’s unique EPDM and bituminous composition delivered a robust yet flexible roof covering, providing a durable and puncture-resistant, walkable surface throughout the construction phase, allowing the continued progress of a complex programme.
