Overview
The Haymarket development, a £350m urban regeneration project in Edinburgh, Scotland, aimed to create a vibrant city center hub. The first phase encompassed 390,000 sq ft of office space and 40,000 sq ft of retail accommodation. Given its high profile and prestigious location, the project required a roofing system that met stringent standards for performance, reliability, and durability.
The Project
RESITRIX®, a hybrid EPDM and bituminous waterproofing system from CARLISLE®, was chosen for its exceptional performance and suitability for the project's specific needs. Site Sealants, a leading roofing contractor based in Edinburgh, installed the system.
The chosen specification for Buildings 1, 4, and 5 included RESITRIX®, FG 35 Primer, ALUTRIX® 600 VCL, cellular glass insulation board, drainage matting, and RESITRIX® SKW full bond EPDM membrane.
RESITRIX®️ system offers several key benefits, including flame-free installation, durability, robustness, and low maintenance. The flame-free installation process minimised safety risks and reduced potential delays. The combination of EPDM and bituminous materials provided exceptional durability and longevity. The system was designed to withstand foot traffic on the walkable terrace areas, and it offered a long service life and minimal maintenance requirements.
The Site Sealants team demonstrated their expertise in addressing design challenges. They provided an alternative design solution for the parapet level, incorporating ALUTRIX® 600 VCL, insulation, and RESITRIX® SKW membrane. This solution avoided significant delays and resulted in a neat and robust finish.
The project involved regular site inspections by Site Sealants, CARLISLE's technical team, and the main contractor to ensure the highest quality installation and performance. Additionally, a flood test was conducted to verify the system's waterproofing capabilities and resistance to leaks.
The successful implementation of the RESITRIX®️ waterproofing system at the Haymarket development showcased the value of collaboration between the roofing system supplier and the installer. The system's exceptional performance, durability, and reliability contributed to the project's overall success and provided a strong foundation for the long-term sustainability of the building.
