Main train station in Rotterdam, NL
Rotterdam’s new main train station is a modern transport hub and also an architectural triumph. The pointed hall roof which, like the matt exterior skin, is clad in stainless steel slats, along with a 28,000 m2 folding roof construction made of multiple layers of glass panels, make the station a real head-turner in the modern city centre.
To seal the steel drainage gullies at the lowest points of the folding roof with a total length of three kilometres of material, a “plug and play” solution from CCM Europe was used. CARLISLE® created a special mould which was used to pre-configure the drainage details for the gutters made from HERTALAN® EPDM using the hot bonding method. The roofing company laid the HERTALAN® EPDM strips and pre-configured elements on the gullies and bonded everything while it was still in the workshop with special HERTALAN® contact adhesive. On the station roof, only the 120 gully elements had to be connected later on, again using EPDM strips. In total, around 4,500 m2 of HERTALAN® EPDM were used.
